5 things Indian society needs to understand about marriages

Marriage is sacred and many look forward to it, but there is something that Indian society needs to understand about marriages.

It not only brings two people together for a journey of lifetime, but it also starts a chapter of new-you in your life. Many dream about this unity and look forward to it.

But some don’t think of this as their life goals, as their priorities of life is not just marriage but something else.

things Indian society needs to understand

Let’s look at 5 things that Indian society needs to understand about marriage.

1. It is OK to not get married

things Indian society needs to understand

Heard of the quote, “You can take the horse to the river, but you cannot force the horse to drink from it”, well Indian society is exactly opposite to it, parental, social and society pressures an individual to such an extent that one is forced into marriage.

Most residential societies let only married couples stay, because to their belief only an unmarried person could do all the wrongs in the world behind a closed door.

It is time people come in peace with the fact that not necessarily marriage will bring the good fortune and singledom can lead to a disastrous life. One can create its own fortune with hard work and dedication.

2. Let the marriage be between the couple

Compatibility of the 2 individuals should be the prime focus of the biggest union, however that has not been the case. Being excited for your kids is one thing, but being overly involved in the biggest decision of their life might not be great idea.

3. Accept the Divorce

According to a report, Indians rank lowest in terms of divorce rates with only 1% of married couples getting divorced.

It opens up a pandora box of too many unanswered questions like people avoid divorce because of over dependency on male companion, parental pressure, social stigma. The pressure is such that even the mistreatments like domestic abuse, infidelity, emotional torture that leaves life time of scars in ones life is neglected and over-looked.

If marriage has not been a successful, we need to come in peace with it and part ways for the benefit of the two individuals involved. Forcing marriage is the worse and could lead to depression or in some cases suicides.

4. Inter-caste marriage is not a big deal

You are not the last of your kind and of course you all are still humans, just like 7 Billion others around the world. Your kids not getting married in your own caste, will not make the world of difference to anybodies existence in the universe.

Since there is no study that proves inter-caste marriages are unsuccessful, we believe it is safe to assume that the happiness of the your kids should supersede the thoughts of what your neighbor/or long distant relative has to say.

5. Love is Love

Love is love and it can happen between any two loving individuals, it is not necessary that it has to be a women and a men, but anyone. The subject is fairly new, but thanks to the strong LGBTQ community in India, the nations law was amended to accommodate the interest of everyone.

Same sex love is no more a crime and as it is accepted in law, parents should also come in peace with the subject.
